W&Z in the Community

December 2007

When Wesierski and Zurek began twenty years ago, the founding partners envisioned a firm that left a mark on society far beyond its legal services. Since then, W&Z has been committed to strengthening the community by working to improve the lives of those less fortunate. By promoting annual charitable efforts, W&Z has built a conscientious team of dedicated employees with a passion for humanity.

Implemented in 1990, W&Z's annual Adopt-a-Family program assists numerous families in the community who face increasing adversity due to circumstance beyond their control. Every holiday season, employees collect necessary household items and other gifts that are later delivered to the families anonymously through a local church.

W&Z employees have also worked continuously with the Ronald McDonald House in both Orange and LA county by raising donations and increasing the quantity of volunteers.

Recently, the firm has been aiding a local family by purchasing tamales on a regular basis. After the husband became disable and could no longer work, the wife began making tamales for extra money, working frequent sleepless nights in order to perfect these dishes that have become a valued W&Z staple.

In addition to its regular programs, W&Z often goes the extra mile by taking on special projects, where employees go out into the community and help to raise funds or volunteer with local and international charities.

Africa

During the summer of 2008, W&Z began a supply drive for orphans in Africa. Employees collected much-needed items such as baby formula, vitamins and medicine, in addition to clothes, toys and books, and the firm shipped the packages to a port in Sub-Saharan West Africa. Once they arrived, the boxes were met by a W&Z employee, who hand-delivered the donated items to orphanages in Ghana and Togo. Many of the children receiving the donations had suffered unimaginable hardships such as war, famine and disease, yet for a brief moment in time, they were connected to people at W&Z who truly cared.

Race for the Cure

In July of 2003, the longest-employed member of the W&Z family, Karen Borges, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, W&Z has sponsored numerous teams to take part in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. In September of 2006, after Karen was cancer free, she was honored by sixteen W&Z employees through their team "Karen's Krusaders," and they raised over $750 for breast cancer research.
